The Crawler

A couple of days after he was ten months old (and had his last video made) Foozley started commando crawling and it really became a whole new game around here. We pretty quickly had to go out and get barriers for the open doors because the world was now Foozley’s oyster.

Commando crawling is still the main method of transportation but real crawling, up on hands and knees, is in the game also. This started out of getting out of a sit and is still used for mainly short distances. But every day the real crawling happens a little bit more. It’s certainly faster and seems easier for him.

He can also pull himself into a kneel against all sorts of things although needs help to get into stand. Once standing he gets forgetful and falls on his bum. He thinks this is a terrible thing but we are trying to assure him that he is good at landing.

We know that the Children’s think that Finn’s ears might be clearing up on the fluid side of things and they might well be right. He is certainly a bit more responsive than he usually is.

Today was also a good hearing aid, he managed to have them in for most of an hour while he played which was encouraging.

Foozley and I went to playgroup but he was all grouchy from the moment he work up from his mornings sleep. Because it was sunny and because it helps distract him from his hearing aids I left his hat on. This may have been a mistake because in all the tugging he only made the scrap dig into his chin.

Lunch was a disaster so he is now back in bed and will hopefully wake up the happy kid we all know and love.

Musical Foozley

Foozley

This morning Foozley had his hearing aids in so I thought he might enjoying playing with my keyboard that recently came home. After watching me for a minute he started pressing keys with just one finger which was pretty cute.

So then I put it on the floor for him and he discovered his feet could help also. So the file above is what happened (with drums and sitar added).

One Ear Clear

Foozley went to his ear, nose and throat specialist today. He goes every few months just so they can keep an eye on him. We were looking at getting grommets in his ears to drain the fluid that is in there. This fluid is not all that makes him deaf but it does make it worse.

Today they discovered that one of his ears seems to be clear of fluid which is good indeed. He needs another batch of hearing tests but will probably be able to avoid the operation for grommets.

Foozley is in bed having a well earned rest but I am sure he wants to pass on the following messages.

Thank you to everyone who came to his party.
Thank you to everyone who wrote him a sweet card.
Thank you for all the toys, they are ace.
Thank you to everyone who carried him around and generally fussed over him.
Thank you to everyone who generally makes him feel like a special kid.

The Fort

On account of looking especially cute Foozley was given his original birthday present a couple of weeks ago. So today we went out and bought him something for the day. What he ended up with was a play equipment/fort thing with a slide.

So far he seems to like it very much indeed.

Finn is one year old today. On the one hand it feels like he’s only just arrived, but on the other, the 15th of October 2003 seems like an eternity ago. So much has happened in just a year.

There’s been indescribable joy and uncontrollable sobbing, nappies and bottles and real food, teeth and excema and deafness and hearing aids, childcare and playgroup, grabbing stuff, rolling, sitting and crawling, and so many toys and clothes from 000 to 1. A whirlwind with a little boy in the middle.

Happy Birthday Foozley.

Foozley’s favourite things include helping CDs out of their rack and playing in the kitchen. The CDs are not that big a worry but I had to child-proof the draws and cupboards the other day.

However this doesn’t spoil Foozley’s fun at all as there are always things that don’t live in draws or cupboards that can be played with and mastered.
